Everything Old is New Again
If you've been here before, welcome back! If this is your first time here, I hope you enjoy yourself. This is a magazine much like you would get in the mail from a Volvo club, and the idea is that anyone with stories, photos, and technical information relating to (mainly old) Volvos is encouraged to submit material for publication here. I am trying to get a new issue on-line every two months, and I only have so much to say myself, so contributions from visitors are essential to the continued existence of these pages. The first issue clocked 1099 "hits" in its two-month run, so your material will be seen by quite a few people.
Repeat visitors will find all new articles here, a better designed "look" (I hope you'll agree), and several new features:
- Photo Gallery
- Send in an interesting photo of a Volvo and see it here. This is nominally presented in a "frames" format, but visitors with older browsers will not be inconvenienced.
- Ask the Experts
- E-mail questions and problems to me, and I'll put it to the experts. Who are they? Other readers, of course!
- Archive
- Articles from previous issues which might have lasting interest are presented here in a "no frills" version for reference purposes.
The Racer's Edge and the Humor sections are not featured in this issue, but will be back if submissions permit.
The title of this piece has a double meaning. First, it applies to the contents of these pages. Second, it is about restoring old Volvos. I now have two restoration projects starting up: our 122S is developing significant rust in several places and needs to be taken off the road for a real fix, not just a "patch" job, soooo.... we bought a '67 1800S, not running, but close. The plan is to put this beautiful but tired coupe into good mechanical condition, finish the body (it's someone's abandoned restoration with not too much left to do), and then drive it while taking the Amazon apart into little pieces and putting the new and improved parts back together.
I still intend to start a registry of Volvo fans in these pages, so that people who want to can find each other, develop E-mail support, and the like. I have not had time to develop the program that will make this possible, but I'm working on it. You will be able to sign yourselves up in the registry, and, having done so, search it for whatever you like -- model of Volvo, geographic location, club affiliation -- stuff like that. It will eventually happen. Soon. Be patient with me.
In the meanwhile, enjoy the magazine, send in your photos, questions, etc, and keep the E-mail coming!
