Saturday Noon, May 25th: NY Metro Chapter VCOA Annual Pot Luck Picnic Barbecue
Cemetery Motors, Flushing, Queens
Rain date Monday. NY Metro Chapter invites all Volvo owners and their families to bring a favorite dish or beverage to our shady driveway opposite Flushing Cemetery. Hot dogs and burgers are the main event, but an RSVP to hostess Joanne (718-359-3813) to coordinate a menu and avoid duplications is a good idea. Let's show off our Swedish Iron.
Lie exit 25 north, Utopia Parkway north three lights, left one light to Flushing Cemetery, left again along cemetery, look for Volvos.
June 2nd: Volvo Club at Vintage Races at Sears Point Raceway
Contact Lee Cordner for details: lee@vcoa.org
June 28th - 30th: Volvos at the Vintage Auto Racing Association of Canada (VARAC) Vintage Festival
Mosport, Ontario, Canada
Arrangements are being made to have what may be the largest Volvo-only vintage grid ever at this event. As of the time of this writing, approximately 15 cars from all over the US and Canada have comfirmed that they will be there, and as many as 15 more are expected. The Volvo 140s that normally race in SCCA's ITB class are welcome as are all vintage cars. A large collection of Volvo street cars is also expected. Registration for racers is through VARAC at www.varac.ca/events.

September 13 - 15: Volvo Meet in Osoyoos, B.C., Canada
The 2001 West Coast National Meet, hosted by the Volvo Club of British Columbia, was so much fun we thought we should follow up with something this year. What we are planning is an informal meet in Osoyoos, BC, located at the south end of the Okanagan Valley, to be held on the weekend of September 13 to 15, 2002. For the information of our American friends, Osoyoos is just five miles north of the border from Oroville, Washington. That's about 220 miles northeast of Seattle on some of the most beautiful roads in the Pacific Northwest. For those unfamiliar with the Okanagan Valley, it is renowned for its fruit orchards, wine vineyards, recreational lakes and sunny weather.
The Best Western Sunrise Inn in Osoyoos has been very co-operative and have given us great rates. They had 35 rooms left for that weekend and we were able to hold them all as a block. There are four kitchenettes with one queen bed and a double sofa bed with an economy kitchen for $79.00 +tax, 29 suites with two queen beds in a separate bedroom, double sofabed in the living room, and a full kitchen for $89.00 +tax, and three honeymoon suites with one king bed and a Jacuzzi tub $89.00 +tax. This is based on double occupancy and there is a $5.00 charge for additional people. The room cancellation policy is 48 hours. They will not hold the block indefinitely so I suggest you reserve early. The hotel phone number is 1-877-878-2200 or local number 250-495-4000, and remember to mention the Volvo Club. The hotel is about a block away from the beach on Osoyoos Lake and has a pool and restaurant.
There will be no registration fee for the meet, but we will make registration forms available in the newsletter and on our web site (www.volvoclubofbc.com) in order to keep track of attendance and have the ability to communicate with the attendees if necessary.
This is to be a relaxing, largely social event. It will provide an opportunity to get together and enjoy the company of our Volvo friends. The activities we have in mind will take advantage of the beautiful Okanagan recreational features. The lake is available for swimming or boating or just lying on the beach. There are lots of good wineries, and with the help of the hotel we will arrange a wine tasting tour by bus for Friday, followed by a reception at the hotel. On Saturday we will go for a half day drive on some of the terrific local roads. Club member Bryan Coles lives in Oliver and arranges motorcycle tours of the area, so he knows the kind of roads we like. He will lead the way in his white 1800E. When we return from the drive we will have a car show/display at the hotel or some other interesting location. There will not be a judged concours, however we will provide peoples choice awards and raffle prizes and perhaps dash plaques.
Costs associated with the meet, such as food, beverages, winery tour etc. will simply be on a pay as you go basis. The Volvo Club of BC will provide the peoples choice awards, and solicit door prizes etc. These plans are not cast in stone so I welcome suggestions. Give me (Gregg Morris) a call at 604-469-1216 or e-mail grmorris@moody.bc.ca. Notices of the event will be placed in the various Volvo newsletters and websites. If you know someone who might enjoy the event, pass the word. This should be fun.
